I was planning on using Rock Island, but they are two years out for auctions unless you have unique stuff. Morphy's and Amoskeag are scheduling guns for next fall. I decided to go with Richmond Auctions out of South Carolina.

They were supposed to pick the guns up yesterday. I got the contract and read it carefully. You don't get a reserve price. They have near-infinite ability to bill you for pickup, photos, research, and destruction costs. All of which they said was covered as inclusive with the percentage taken from the hammer price.
I let my wife read the contract, and we decided to call a local LGS. He agreed to take the whole lot of the guns as consignment for a flat 15% off the sale price. That transaction took the rest of the evening.
In the end, I feel much better about doing that than going through an auction house.
I made the same post you saw other places and was inundated with... I hope it works out better for you than it did for me. I listed 12,000, 15k, 30k, and got 3k, 9k, 12k in sales.

Pretry much how it works. Many dealers charge a transfer fee on both sides of the deal. Ie buyer pays 40 transfer, seller does also. I’m doing the same thing right now cutting back on my firearms. I listed a dozen on the local gun trader page and to date have only sold four. Here in this very restrictive state we are required to use a dealer who must do the state background check. The state just doubled the fee for this so now between what a dealer charges for doing the paperwork and holding the gun for the mandatory 10 business days it cost nearly $80 for the transfer fee. In some cases it’s less expensive to pay the sales tax (9%) on a new gun than the fee on a used.
All that rambling above was to say that right now used gun sales in my area are slow.

I did sell a shotgun to an Idaho resident yesterday and we met at a dealer near the state line. $20 transfer fee of which 100% went to the dealer and none to the state. The Washington State fee is $35 plus the local dealers charge $40 and on top of all that this worthless state now charges state sales tax (9%) on the state fee. Thus…..$80, half to the state and half to the dealer. I don’t mind the dealer fees, it requires considerable time for them plus I’m sure they look at the sale as competition to their own gun sales. The state….well I keep my political comments silent.
True for hand guns. I think it is different for Washington legal rifles. The Idaho FFL would still need to do the Washington 10 day hold. Double check me on this. Right you are Mags, I forgot that rifles and shotguns can be sold by an Idaho dealer to a Washington resident. I’ve bought a few on Gunbroker and had them shipped to this dealer in Post Falls but it’s been several years ago. Residents of Washington may purchase rifles and shotguns in a state other than Washington: PROVIDED, That such residents conform to the applicable provisions of the federal Gun Control Act of 1968, Title IV, Pub. L. 90-351 as administered by the United States secretary of the treasury: AND PROVIDED FURTHER, That such residents are eligible to purchase or possess such weapons in Washington and in the state in which such purchase is made: AND PROVIDED FURTHER, That when any part of the transaction takes place in Washington, including, but not limited to, internet sales, such residents are subject to the procedures and background checks required by this chapter.
