Pre 64 Win M/70 value?

My son has a Pre 64 (1947 manufacture) M/70 30/06 he’s thinking about putting up for sale on the local trader site. Unfortunately it has a replacement stock but it does have a Leupold 2-7x in Redfield mounts on it. He’s wondering what to ask for it and I’m thinking maybe $1200.00. It has a five digit serial number and is in such good shape I wonder if maybe it has been re-blued.

Any thoughts on an asking price?

Thanks.

Maybe check gunbraker and see what they might be selling for.

The replacement stock really hurts the value, of course, unless it's something special, and the 30-06 is very common.

I've seen some all original Model 70s in 30-06 around $1800-2000, though, so definitely worth a try at $1200. Given that any Leupold scope is in demand right now, though, and especially the vintage gloss Leupolds, I'd start at $1200 for the gun and sell the scope, separately. Almost a sure bet you'll sell the scope before the gun. Vintage Leupolds are selling for some crazy prices, right now. Check those prices, too.

NCG makes a good point Hatch on the scope. Selling it separate from the gun will probably yield more money.

Here’s some pics of the M/70. Not only a replacement stock but the front and rear sights are missing. Nice looking rifle but the collector value is shot.

Love that stock, though. Way nicer than the original. Not a big deal on the sights, since those are easily replaced. You'll have no problem selling this rifle. Nice rig and a pre-64 action, to boot.

Thanks everybody for your input. He listed it with the scope for $1300.00 so we’ll see what that brings. He’s left handed and not a hunter so this rifle really doesn’t work for him.

My son sold this M/70 for $1200 so he’s pretty happy about that. He intends to reinvest the funds in an AR. He has a buddy that has one he’s thinking about buying. Thanks again everybody for your help.

Congrats to the son.
What caliber AR is he looking at? 556/223?

Yes, he’ll stay with that. He doesn’t reload so he will want to stay with inexpensive ammo if such a thing exists anymore. :D

Funny story, many years ago he went through basic training (Reserves) at Fort Benning and when he got home he bought an AR. He brought it over to show me and I was “meh”. At that time I was still a wood/blue bolt action rifle revolver pump shotgun guy. Kinda narrow minded. When the political change happened in 2008 I decided to buy an AR. Well that opened up my eyes to how much fun these type of firearms are. Since I have enjoyed many different styles of firearms and have my son to thank for it.
