Uberti 45 Colt Cattleman Bulntline

Post by TheBackyardRange » Sun Dec 05, 2021 3:00 pm

I saw this available and had to have it. Had to agree to let the wife give it to me for Christmas :D

She’s a bigun… 18” barrel

Unfortunately, I have to wait until Christmas before I can shoot her. Should be a good time.

I haven’t found an affordable source for custom holsters yet. Nor have I found what I’m looking for. I’d like to have a couple shoulder holsters for my 3 Buntlines and for my two 8-3/8” X-Frame S&Ws. I need at least 2 rigs and 3 different size holsters. The X-frames are identical, one in 460 and the other a 500. A 10” Uberti and 10.5” Ruger Super Blackhawk could probably use the same holster. This 18” will need its own. Might be looking for a modified scabbard instead.

Nothing like a concealed carry buntline.

That looks like a bandolier rig. Not what I’m looking for.

Yes, it is. Several years ago I used to bear hunt and that was the only practical way to carry it while riding my 4Wheeler up and down the mountain. It worked very well.
I have a shoulder holster for my 686 which I've never really used, ( the holster that is :D ). The 686 can ride on my hip. Not the 500 though. I don't think it would be very comfy under my arm.

This is the way you might see me on the range carrying a Buntline. This rig allows me to carry my 1911 and virtually any large frame revolver. I need longer holsters for the Buntlines though. My 10.5” Super Blackhawk has a hooked front sight and requires a full sheath. The Wyatt Earp 10” is perfect. I can draw it faster than my 1911 (mainly due to the 1911 holster not being fully broken in yet).

Seriously, when I yank that Buntline out, it’s just a blur on camera. Hit that hammer about mid draw, as soon as the barrel clears the holster as my wrist starts to turn and I’m on target and ready to fire pretty darn fast. The 18” is a bit slower but still doable.

The 18” hangs way out but doesn’t protrude away from the body. Stays nice and close. Issue is that because of the weight at the end of the barrel, it doesn’t sit at a true cross draw angle. It sit half way between a cross draw and a standard vertical holster.

“Hey is that a buntline or are you just happy to see me?”
