25-25 Stevens

Post by Mgderf » Sun Jul 18, 2021 1:02 pm

O.K. this has to be one of the weirdest cartridges I've ever seen.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.25-25_Stevens

Originally a black powder round, when smokeless powders came about the .25-25 Stevens was already on the outs.
Providing nothing that the then popular .25-21 offered, the .25-25 died out before it got started.

When smokeless powder became the norm, .25-25 shooters took unusual steps to continue shooting their rifles.
According to some, they were mixing 2-3 grains of smokeless shotgun powder with 20 grains of black powder.

Uh, no thanks, but I still thought it was interesting.

Common practice among BPCR shooters. I have done it myself. Its called duplexing. It cleans up the load allowing you to shoot more rounds before the fouling gets to bad.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
