Originally a black powder round, when smokeless powders came about the .25-25 Stevens was already on the outs.
Providing nothing that the then popular .25-21 offered, the .25-25 died out before it got started.
When smokeless powder became the norm, .25-25 shooters took unusual steps to continue shooting their rifles.
According to some, they were mixing 2-3 grains of smokeless shotgun powder with 20 grains of black powder.
Uh, no thanks, but I still thought it was interesting.

Common practice among BPCR shooters. I have done it myself. Its called duplexing. It cleans up the load allowing you to shoot more rounds before the fouling gets to bad.
