misfeed in the 22 pump

My first post in the Henry forums so hello to everyone. The first time out with my new to me pump 22 I had a misfeed that resulted in a stuck cartridge
wedged in the mechanism. Was unable to clear at the range and could not tell if a live round or spent one. At home I was able to get out what was a live round that had the bullet almost pulled out the casing at an angle. Anyone have this happen to them, was this a freak thing or should I be concerned enough to call Henry?

Welcome to the forum pd5188. Did you try anymore ammo after you were able to get the live round out. Also please take a look at our how many thread and add yours to our running total. http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2019

I might also add I have a pump and havent had that issue. There is also an instructional video at the Henry site you can watch to disassemble the gun. It might not hurt to do this to give it a cleaning in case there is something left in there after digging out that round.

I have not shot it since, and it maybe awhile before I go back to the range. The round came out in one piece and I was able to empty the feed tube easily by dumping them out the front. I will look at the video and check closely for any residue.

I have a pump and when I first shot I got a jam, spent cartridge wedged but I got it out. I sprayed a little Hoppe’s gun medic and have shot close to a thousand rounds with out any problems

Welcome to the forum. May I ask what ammo you were shooting?

Sometimes people will have this problem with the lever action and it is because they short cycled the action. I have no experience with the pump but you might be doing the same thing.

When you pump it make sure you pump it briskly to the end and get a little bump. Now that it has jammed you might want to go easy on it which might cause it to jam moire. Next time out work the action with authority like it’s never jammed before.

Let us know if this helps.

I was thinking I may have short stroked it. In my old age i needed to put a scope on it and was in the process if getting it sighted in when the jam occurred. So I was shooting with a bench rest. The next time I will take it after spray lubing the works and see what happens.

This happened a time or 2 with my H003TM. I'm pretty sure I short-stroked it. With these pumps in particular, I've adopted a pump-it-like-you-mean-it approach, and that seems to have eliminated the issue...they respond well to a somewhat heavy hand.

That little bump is what i try to feel so I don’t short stroke it.

As has been mentioned, pump it like you are mad at it. I have one and have had no trouble even shooting shorts in it. Remember it is not made of balsa wood and as far as lubrication a drop inside the rifle is better than the whole can on the outside of it.
