Years ago when the pump had the round barrel, the trigger guard was plastic. Henry then did a redesign and incorporated the octagon barrel. Is the t.guard still plastic? Thanks.

It's still plastic. I had to go and look at mine, so I've learned something too!

Here is my follow-up of the DIP aluminum trigger guard for the Henry Frontier Pump: First, it is a quality product and fits perfectly as a replacement of the original plastic guard. That being said, the original plastic guard is so good that it is virtually indistinguishable from the aluminum replacement. The only give-away that the original is plastic is a very faint "seam" line along the middle of the outside part of the guard. In other words, you cannot tell the difference between the two without very close examination. The only reason to replace the plastic guard with the metal one is because you WANT it to be metal and not plastic.

Regarding the replacement guard's installation sequence:

1. Remove the butt stock, one screw.
2. Remove the receiver cover, four screws.
3. Remove the bolt.
4. Remove the lock bar and its dual spring, one pin.
5. Remove the unlocking lever below the lock bar dual spring, one pin.
6. Lower the hammer and remove the hammer spring and guide.
7. Remove the trigger guard pin at the front of the guard and the screw at the rear of the guard that resides below the hammer spring.
8. Remove the original plastic guard.
9. Install the replacement aluminum guard and assemble the firearm in reverse order of disassembly.

I strongly advise the use of hollow-ground screwdriver bits and a punch kit as tools to do the job and not cause damage to the various parts.

One last item of note is that the pump action does not have the mechanical advantage of a lever action and will always require more effort to actuate and will never be as smooth as the lever. Nevertheless, it is a joy to shoot and is just plain FUN.
