Revolvers from Henry!?

While I am disappointed the new Henry revolver wasn't a single action, I'll hold off judgement on the Henry revolver until it gets the real test, namely, how it functions in terms of trigger, reliability and accuracy. The attention to those details counts the most on the success of a new revolver and for me, personally, on a double action revolver, how much effort a manufacturer puts in to a good DA trigger pull tells me a lot. Doesn't have to be match grade or even great, just useable, before I'll consider buying a specific model of DA revolver. We'll see when the new Henry shows up for testing and reviews.

GFK , I am with you on the not buying a firearm just to look at. The only reason that I gave a second look at the engraved Smith was that even with the display box it wasn't that much more than the H.R.A. msrp. Just saying that unless the new Henry wheelguns can be bought for about one half of sticker price, I can't see them being a big seller. I guess time will tell.

I agree, that Smith is not bad. But for $1,300, the hammer and trigger could be more polished. I have a M360 that looked the same way. I used some Flitz polish. Now, the finish on the trigger and hammer are much less burnt looking and more clean looking.

I mentioned on the Ruger forum to a similar post. The Henry revolver doesn't interest me from what I can see from their picture. Way more interesting if they offered a single action revolver in 357. I also mentioned I wasn't interested in a Marlin rifle, seems Ruger really likes the 45-70 cartridge. I said if I were to buy another revolver it would probably be a Ruger or another rifle it would probably be a Henry.

I'd have more interest if they offered a SA in 45 Colt. Any interest would be squashed though by too high a price.

I am not a fan of the aesthetic of these revolvers, but I like that they put them out there.

Being the first offerings, I would think they have other ideas on the drawing board to expand. It seems like many of us don't like the look, but like the idea of a Henry revolver. I know I like the idea, and that I would like to see what other models they are working on. Maybe something like a Colt 1860?

Interesting reactions here on the new revolver. Makes me think that it would have been better if Henry submitted some drawings to present it to the public first to see what kind of feedback they would get.

My first reaction to the appearance of the Henry wheelgun was negative due to the Harrington Richardson/starter gun resemblance. I also didn't care for the "horn" on the top of the backstrap and am of the opinion that the only place brass belongs around any gun is the cartridge case. UH OH!!

On the plus side...I'm of the opinion that the Smith K-frame is the sweetest of all midsize framed revolvers but it's no secret they are a bit fragile for a steady diet of full house loads. This Henry is no doubt a little more robust and long term durable than the K. If they give it a decent trigger pull both double and single that would be a plus also. AND...there appears to be enough meat in the cylinder to make a five shot .41 mag!! Not going to hold my breath waiting but I'd be in the market then.

Hey Paratrooper, I like the idea of the 1860.
But really...Tell me any reason to purchase one of these over a Python, GP100, S&W 686, 19, 27 etc. 686's and GP-100's can be had for $800 all day". If you are buying Pythons, S&W 27's all day, you need to be buying all you can buy!
And much better lookin.

Even if there 200 cheaper than the Colt,Ruger or Smith I give them a hard pass on appearance. They are just ugly

I understand; looks is a factor. As NCG pointed out, function is a factor also. To me, Henry's revolver seems to be geared toward collectors. Like a lot of things, beautiful is in the eye of the beholder. One man's trash is another man's treasure. It may function fine. I agree though; the aesthetic may have to grow on you.

Look at the cylinder lockup on the Ruger GP100 more so how the crane locks into the frame.and the fact that the frame is solid without a sideplate. Now look at the new Henrys for about the same $$ and tell me which of those would you bet on for many thousands of rounds over the years. I have two .357's One is a GP100 full lug 6 inch and when I want to load it a little (hot) I have no concerns.I am glad that H.R.A. finally did a handgun but I think that they could have done better. Also the open top Colt 1860 design is not a good choice for modern cartridge revolver. Even Colt got away from it with the Model P.

One thing for sure they all make holes and two holes depending on bullet which causes massive leak of fluid leading to death.

I bought a new 4" Security Six about 45 years ago. I wouldn't be able to hazard a guess how many rounds have gone through it and some were pretty hot. Unlike it's owner the Ruger is showing no signs whatsoever of wearing out!

It would be fun to own the Henry revolver if it came in 9mm. It would be a nice matching set to go with my homesteader. I'll wait, it will probably happen fairly soon.

Ruger makes a BH Convertible, comes with the 38spl/357 cylinder and a 9mm cylinder.

Another reason I wish Henry would have gone single action. You can use semi-auto cartridges without needing moon clips. 9mm is as cheap to shoot as it gets in center fire.

There are already at least two single actions in 9mm. One of them is a Colt clone with a color case hardened frame so I don't think that it would have been wise for HRA to do the same. Also Charter Arms has solved the rimless cartridge problem in their double action revolvers without using moon clips as in 9mm, 40 S&W and .45ACP.
