I've had good luck with the model paint lasting, but I don't carry the guns on duty, just shoot them. My edc guns have xs sights. Although, the mini 14 does ride around in a scabbard in the utv, but it has wings for protection.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Re: Front sight paint
I had looked into Testors. It was $2 more than the paint pen and figured I would be more likely to use a paint pen for other things than a bottle of paint.BrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 2:41 pmI've had good luck with the model paint lasting, but I don't carry the guns on duty, just shoot them. That's cool. Each of us uses what works.

Re: Front sight paint
Haven't tried the green, they didnt have any last time we were in. I'll look for it. Post a pic if you get a chance. I'd like to see how it looks in use.

Re: Front sight paint
Here you go BOM. I first hit the sight with the white paint then after it drys good I use a couple coats of green. I like the green better.

Re: Front sight paint
Green seems to catch my eyes alot better. Ive used that green on all of my guns and Ive only got one gun that has a red dot sight on it. I buy green dot reflex sights for rifles and pistols.

Re: Front sight paint
I was having difficulty picking up the front sight on my H001. I removed the hood and put some of the Testor's florescent orange paint on the sight post. I left the hood off. It made a big difference. I am able to pick up the sights more quickly now.
Re: Front sight paint
Good idea on leaving the hood off.

Re: Front sight paint
I usually go over the testors with a couple passes of clear nail polish, seems to help it stay bright, and protect it.

Re: Front sight paint
My brothers wife came across "gun sights paint"and gave me a package of it, assorted colors. It's a multi color pack that I've tried a few colors of. Just about any color is an improvement, will have to try white color as a primer coat then one of the colors as a second coat. Haven't gotten front sight bright enough yet.
Re: Front sight paint
often i find the issue is soft edges on sights. besides a brass bead, I like front sight black. It helps clean up the lines on sights. You can do it with a lighter, but this works also.

Re: Front sight paint
Nail polish works well and can be found in a multitude of colors. I've used black on pan head screws to look better on a couple projects I've done. Works very well.
