I had one of there 45-70's in a take down model for a short time but I never did fire it. I ended up selling it to someone who wanted it real bad. He has shot it and says it shoots good but I dont have any info on this model.

Whenever mentioned I hear more bad than I do good when seeing posts about them on the internet. The fact that they are the cheapest option from the Italian gunmakers based on my understanding would be enough to make me wary of them.


However given what I have read about Italian gunmakers this rifle may very likely be made by Pedersoli and not Chiappa.

Chiappa is one of those, "You get what you pay for" companies.
They produce (or produced under their name) a myriad of models, from cheap to stupid expensive.

Their reproduction of the Winchester High-Walls and Low-Walls are well liked, but stupid expensive.
Their .22lr 1911 is about as cheap as you can get, and it shows.

I would love to have a couple of their upper-end guns, but I don't have stupid expensive funds.

Have seen some of Chiappa's stuff in stores, but have never been willing to risk buying one. As other have said, pretty much a mixed bag as far as their rep. If you're going Italian, I think the best strategy is 1) staying with an importer like Taylor's who can as least do some in-house QC or gunsmithing and 2) staying with the better Italian brands like Pedersoli and Uberti, though Pietta has greatly improved and updated their products, these days. Love my Cimarron/Pietta Frontier SA.

Agreed. This rifle is available thru Taylors and looked interesting IF no hi or low walls can be had in 45 Colt. Just thinkin'.

The other thing you may want to consider is potentially purchasing if possible through budsgunshop as they offer for sale a lifetime warranty. I've yet had the need to purchase or use it but it's something you may want to consider if they so happen to sell this gun.


Had I decided to purchase the Pedersoli Sharps I was looking at I seriously considered purchasing that life time warranty and very probably would have. I'm pretty sure the amount you pay for the warranty is based on the amount you pay for the gun.

I have to go through my Canadian guy as I cannot get guns across the border and he is licensed to do it. Good info though. Buds is a nice shop by the looks of it.

Sorry to hear that isn't an option for you, but thought I might mention it. I've ordered a good number of guns through them and always been satisfied with the results.

It does, and I think it just depends on which one you like most. I've ordered a number of things that took even longer than six months to get so that time for me wouldn't be the determining factor. The determining factor for me would be which item do I really want the most. Six months to me is a realitively short time but the time afterwards when I own it and use it for years to come would matter more.

Checking out the warranty on the Chiappa website and it stated you have a one year warranty but get this. You the customer have to pay for shipping both ways. Considering all others I have dealt actually pay for shipping both ways kind of gives me the feeling they just don't stand behind their product. Maybe that might be different iof you purchase through Taylors or Cimmeron but I wasn't able to find anything with regards to Taylors on their website.

I think what it might imply is that they were getting a lot of returns and that shipping costs/insured was eating up their margin. It could also mean they were seeing a lot of frivolous returns. Or it's just the way they chose to manage the returns as a business practice.

Maybe take a look at Uberti. My 1873 Colt came with a 5 yr warranty.

Your right it could mean a lot of things however a good number of their competitors are willing to offer better service indicating as I said they are more willing to stand behind their product. So when doing my research and considering whether or not I wish to spend my money on any given product this kind of thing goes into the Con side and not the Pro side of the ledger.
