Just looking at the qualifying order for Watkins Glen, what is essentially meant to be the slowest 20 drivers includes
Daniel Suárez Michael McDowell Kyle Larson Ty Gibbs Kyle Busch Chris Buescher as well as Connor Zilisch and SVG.

A little bit of a surprise Blaney pipped SVG by 0.03 for cup pole, Zilisch took pole for Xfinity, SVG will start P2 for both races.
Lots of drivers doing double duty this weekend having raced trucks yesterday or xfinity today, Zilisch is doing triple duty racing all 3.

Qualified 14th finished 8th, will start the cup race 25th.
Carnage in the final stage of Xfinity, Zilisch has been the fastest car all race, SVG the 2nd, SVG pitted just prior to a caution that gave him track position and the lead, Zilisch started back in 5th but quickly drove back to 2nd. Ran nose to tail for probably 10 laps until contact put SVG into the wall and out. Hill made contact with Zilisch on the restart and took the lead with Zilisch back in 5th but another caution in less than a lap. Zilisch drove back to the lead on the next restart but contact between hill and McDowell battling for 2nd resulted in a massive crash involving 16 cars, blocking the track and stopping the race.
It should get going again and cant see anyone beating Zilisch unless they wreck him.

Win for Zilisch but drama, has fallen off the car celebrating and hit the ground hard.
Has been put on a stretcher and taken to the medical center.

Zilisch was released from hospital but has a broken collar bone so wont be driving in tomorrows cup race.
Dont now how it will effect the rest of his Xfinity campaign, todays win gave him the regular season points lead, with it being his 6th win he already has 36 playoff points and in the playoffs, even if he misses a couple of races will still probably be top 3 in regular season points.
He might have to talk to SVG about racing with a broken collar bone, SVG broke his along with 3 ribs in 2021, had surgery to plate the collar bone and was back racing 13days latter winning 3 races in 2 days.

Another road course another easy win for SVG, win number 4 for his rookie cup season is the most in history
Rolled around just behind Blaney for the first stage, passed him on a restart and never looked like being beaten, driving only as fast as he needed to maintain track position and the lead.

Xfinity does not race next weekend so Zilisch has 2 weeks to try and get healthy enough to race.

I have been watching NASCAR for many years and I have never heard of a driver falling out of their car and breaking their collarbone.

I am surprised it has not happen before. Wanna bet NASCAR or the owners come up with some regs to protect their investments (drivers).

Ole Carl Edwards used to do a backflip off the door when he won, he never fell.

And the third place driver had more points than anyone so didn’t he win the race
It was the same this week 6th place was the highest points scorer, 3rd place outscored the winner, 2nd scored the same points and 4th place only 1 point less.

Fans are never going to be happy unless their favorite team/driver is winning it is a simple as that.
They dont want to see a great drivers do great things, you only need to look at the outrage over SVG winning from certain segments to see that.
Plenty would be better off watching a demolition derby than a car race, it would deliver what they claim to want to see.

Get rid of the stage racing and cautions, it might keep the field together for the first half of the race but limits strategy. There is no incentive for anyone to get out and build a lead when they know it is going to be taken away, hell even SVG is quite happy to roll around in the pack for half a race on road courses because he knows it is not worth leading and driving anywhere near 100%. Limit cautions to safety only and let them pit under yellow so they have to strategize on the fly.

In other news Zilisch had surgery to put in a plate on his broken collarbone.
The same thing SVG did back in 2021 that saw him back racing and winning in less than 2 weeks.

Looking at the practice times could be an interesting race at Richmond, massive drop off in tires with most drivers showing over 2 second drop off over 30 laps. With only 8 sets of tires allocated and 400 laps drivers will need to make them last 50 laps or more.

Wasn’t it Larry Mac that said carry the tires from the garage and don’t roll them.
