1911 Picture Thread

I know there is some 1911 people on here. I think ole Headhog and 5shot have a few. I only have a couple and just bought one last week. Springfield Ronin 9mm. took it out today and ran some ammo thru it. I only had one malfunction out of about 200 rounds. Im not sure that was the guns fault. Other than that it worked great and was fun to shoot. Here are the only 2 I have. Might be a 3rd one coming dont know for sure yet.

We don't have as many 1911s as we once had, but we kept our Springfield Range Officer 1911 in 9mm because it's so easy to shoot (and cheap to shoot). It's been a great 1911.



My serious personal protection gun is not a true 1911, but it still has the beautiful 1911 trigger and the 1911 style thumb safety. It's more or less a double stack 1911, holds 15. It handles and shoots like a 1911 all the way and that's why I chose it. Also in 9mm. Kimber KDS9c

I am, Of Course, a 1911 fan. I have a few...

My Match 1911, built to shoot in the Service Auto Class of PPC was built on a Springfield Armory Frame but the Frame and Slide are all that are stock. The gun was always capable of more accuracy than I was, but we won a lot of the classes I shot in. I made two knives to match the two sets of custom grips. (Made by a member here... )

After a major surgery, Miss T bought me a gift. She knew I liked Single Action Autos, and the 45 caliber so the Kimber Tactical Ultra II joined the family. I was teaching in the academy, and teaching firearms for the Department and we were carrying the full size Glock 22 .40 caliber, so I had been carrying the Glock 27 mini Glock off duty. I carried the Kimber off duty now and then but stuck with the Glock most of the time for professional reasons.

My latest 1911 was a Taurus a friend bought and didn't like. Honestly, I think he was afraid of the recoil. A non shooter, he bought it to have a gun in the house and had never shot it. He did like shooting my Model 64 .38 and tried to buy it, but it was the gun they issued me out of the academy ALL Those years ago. Not for sale. I bought the Taurus and sent him to the local Gun Shop. I ended up having a gunsmith put better sights on the Taurus.

One of my bucket list guns IS a 1911. I would love to find a 70 series Colt National Match Gold Cup in Stainless Finish. A friend loaned me one while my match gun was being built. I won a half dozen matches with the gun. It wasn't for sale, promised to his son when he dies.

Ive owned a couple Rocks. 10 mm and a 40. They were ok guns for what you pay for them. Probably should have kept the 10 it was a good shooter

I had a RI GI also, wish I still did it or I shot it well.
Gave one of the 1911's to the son when he turned 18.
All I have now is a High Standard, nothing fancy, but it shoots pretty good.
Everything in the pic. except the jacket it's laying on was $450.
And is my favorite kind of weapon, ssh. Undocumented.

I’ve had/have a few in my time. My first was a Colt Series 70 stainless and that was one fine pistol. Then I had a Para 1911 shown below. Note it doesn’t use the barrel bushing system 1911’s are known for. Finally the only 1911 I still own is just like NCG’s, a Springfield Range Officer in 9mm. It sure is a sweet shooting pistol and just feels good in the hand. Note the shooting pic taken by a buddy of my sons who is a talented photographer. He was able to catch the case being ejected.

They're fine shooters, and inexpensive. I carry one or the other occasionally. Usually the Tanker due to the shorter slide/barrel, without any worries about reliability. Both have Series 70 internals. Like nearly every 1911 they do require some break-in, but will reliably feed and fire any .45acp you give them from 185grn jhp to 255 grn HCFN +P, but work best with Wilson Combat or equivalent mags.

Probably don't need to tell you this, but these are not competition pistols. They are combat guns with combat sights, trigger, barrel, etc.

The only problem I've had is with 45 ACP magazines by PROMAG. They are slightly too big. The magazine can be forced in and it will feed, but it is very tight and very hard to remove. I tried grinding/polishing down the sides along with some dry lube. But I gave up on it, easier to go buy a different brand magazine that will actually slide in nicely.
