The Rumor...

Post by Vaquero » Wed Mar 05, 2025 3:33 pm

As some have read in the "what have you done at the loading bench" thread. I mentioned the rumor of another mouth to feed shortly, well... it's no longer just a rumor.
It has come into existence. ;)
I have been well pleased with the new Rossi Trapper and decided to adopt another. :o
This one though is a pistol caliber, oh which one you might ask. :?:
I went with the 357, and the first thing I noticed is that it isn't nearly as butter smooth as the mighty 444 model. Not rough at all, just not as slick, but as much range time as I anticipate with this that should change pretty quick. I'd compare it to the newer Marlins I've tried lately.
The trigger is a different animal also, on the 444 there is a little set notch where the trigger will stay till you add the little extra pressure. This one is just a nice crisp break.

I did walk out back and put a few rounds through it without getting blowed away. it's quite Breezy out there today.
It holds 8 rds. in the tube, before going out I loade 8 rounds, 2 each of 4 different profiles and it cycled all without a hitch.

Okay, 8 rds. of the 180gr purpose on the plates from 30 to 40 yds. Then loaded 8 of those cheap 158gr hp, and at about 30 yds., and put them on paper.
I'm pleased and say this should be a fun gun for sure.

Very nice looking rifle!
I have a .357 Henry, so I'm looking forward to hearing your experiences with developing loads for it.
I hope that it shoots as well as your other rifle.

 after I got home this afternoon I had to drag a ladder out put the chimney cap back on. Sometime yesterday it blew off. I discovered it as I was leaving this morning. While up there I also cleaned the gutters.
Took a short break with an adult beverage,  then grab the new toy, shoved 8 of those pugnose loads in it and walked out on the patio. Put 'em right on the 10" gong at 40ish yds. Really sweet.
