Scope mounting on single shot rifle

Post by Guide » Tue Oct 07, 2025 7:58 pm

I. Going to put a scope on my Henry single shot 350 legend. I’m planning on buying a Vortex Crossfire HD 1-4x24 scope. I want low magnification for hunting g in thicker brush and shorter range shots. I’d like to mount this scope without having to remove the rear sight. Everything I’ve read says the rear sight needs to be removed I was hoping just to fold it down. Any suggestions? I’m not big on using brass rods and hammer to drive it lose.

You will need the mount and scope to check this out. I cut mine off with a Dremel cutoff wheel. But I mounted a dot on mine. With a scope like you are going to buy you have more flexibility because there isnt a front bell. You can cut the pic rail to clear the front sight and check to see if the scope will mount with a shorter rail or I have read where guys folded the rear sight down and notched the rail on the bottom to clear the rear sight. Driving a rear sight out of the SS is not a big deal but maybe what I suggested above will work

What Al said.
I have one for those scopes on my Henry 41 mag. and love it.
I got mine before they made the reticle illuminated, which I prefer.

I agree with Al. You'll have to cut the weaver 82 mount off short enough for it to fit without removing the rear mount.

This isImage[/img] a still shot of a Henry .223 with a large scope on it with a picatinny rail. The rear sight is not removed and actually in upright position. The scope I’m planning on using has no bell on the front and is only 9.5” long so if anyone knows or has any idea what this rail is please let me know. I’ve sent an email to the man who posted this video on you tube hoping he might respond. I don’t want to remove the rear sight and I if I have to I’d want to put something in the dovetail that would look good as well as protect the opening.
Thanks again every one.

Looks to me as if he has done what I suggested and cut the rail to fit.

That looks like a shorter mount. The Weaver82 is 8.2 inches long.

If check thumbnail number 4 you will see this rail is just over 5 inches. EGW makes the one for Henry

All EGW/Henry bases. One base for the reddot I shortened. Otherwise I drift out the rear sight and fill the slot with a Marbles blank.
