John Deere 4300
a couple of pictures of our son and grandson on our 2001 John Deere 4300 ... early on we used it heaving working large hunting acreage and working an acre and a half garden plus mowing about that much grass ... at that time we had numerous attachments but with us no longer having a garden, most of them have bee sold ... we currently have a front bucket and the mower deck shown .... its use now days is to mow well over 2 acres, take care of our gravel driveway, and deal with our infrequent winter snow accumulations

Re: John Deere 4300
our soon to be 20 year old John Deer 4300 come out of semiretirement and been pressed into service working on land owned by one of our sons .... for the last 10 years, it has been used mostly as a mower .... after having both of the loader's hydraulic cylinders (outlined in picture below) rebuilt, our front end loader bucket is once again moving earth .... its really come in handy for moving earth needed to build a bullet stop on our family range .... the tractor itself continues to run really well hopefully, she's ready to run another 20 years

That's a pretty good tractor. Another 20 for sure. Loaders are sure handy.

Re: John Deere 4300
My home pistol range is 25 years old, and I had been talking with a few friends about my need for a larger tractor with a bucket to raise the level of the berm, which has settled over the years. I have also been planning a single lane hundred yard range for rifles for the last few years and your tractor is about the size I was looking at. I would need to set railroad ties then move fill dirt and looks like it would do the job.
The advice I kept getting... You don't have a long term continuous need, hire out the job, or rent. I keep hearing Tim Taylor in my mind.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

back when I bought that tractor it was a "want to" that I was able to easily move into the "need to" column.... in the first place I've never had a need for one at home but back then I was running a hunting club that had just under a thousand acres under contract .... bushhogging, tilling, planting, and dragging logs were ongoing needs .... I kept the tractor, mower deck and bucket but let all of the other attachments go many years ago .... its now parked over at one of our son's place .... earlier this week he used it to dig three foot deep, collectively 50 yard long series of drainage ditches to run pipe needed to carry water away from their home .... the accomplished the task in 2 days where he wouldn't have even started it without the tractor .... as to cost effectiveness, in my mind, ours has paid for itself many times over but with no real need for one at home, I wouldn't buy another today .... that said, over the years I've bought many different things by "want" motivation and can't think of any I now regret ....
