This morning, Mary called to me and said there was a huge wood pecker in a tree out back. There sure was. I grabbed my new gear and took some photos.
First with the 105mm zoom, then with the 400mm zoom then with the 2x extender making it 800mm. That is what I wanted to get with wildlife photographs. All in the warm comfort of the family room. At least the window I shot through was fairly clean.
I did photo edit this one a bit.

Pileated woodpecker. Nice. We have a pair here back in the marsh. Cool birds to watch hammering away on an old, dead tree.

Very cool. Nice pics. They are supposedly somewhat rare but I do have a pic somewhere in my gallery of three at once on the oak tree in my front yard. Pics are not nearly as good as yours though Dave! Nice capture!

The Pileated is something of an icon in our north woods. Have them almost daily in our yard. Magnificent bird, for sure. Nice work with the camera, Dave.
