Seems its range should be calculated in hours, not miles. Might end up really aggravating a lot of people in a traffic jam.

Most of the power consumption goes into acceleration and maintaining motion. There is very little power draw stopped in a traffic jam. Estimating range in hours or miles can be challenge in mixed driving conditions. I think miles is used because it's something the general public has familiarity with. I can see a buyer being told 3 hours by the dealer and then the buyer asking how many miles will that get me.
