CCH Final Tuneup = Buck Fever!

Post by ESquared » Wed Nov 07, 2018 6:41 pm

Went to my indoor range with the CCH 30-30 (w/ 2-7X32 Leupold VX Freedom) and odds and ends of various factory loads, just to 1) shoot 'em up so I could harvest the brass; 2) Continue to get used to this pretty new rifle/scope set-up; and 3) Confirm Winchester Ballistic Silvertip 150 grain as my hunting load of choice.
Shot Hornady LeveRevolution, Hornady Am. Whitetail, Fed Fusion, Fed PowerShok and Win PowerPoint first. All of them were landing about 3-5" high at 50 yds, so I took my time, adjusted my POA accordingly and things worked out fine. Barrel was plenty hot by this time, as it was probably 25 rounds fired in total.
Then loaded up my last 3 rounds of Silvertip and pretty much zeroed in on the bullseye (maybe an inch low, but this is no sniper rifle). Was loading one cartridge at a time. Can't complain.
Off to the Ozarks this weekend!

thank's for the report .... it sure looks like you've found an excellent hunting load .... I'm really looking forward to your coming hunting reports and hearing your impression of your ammo after you've taken some game with it

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Thanks for the good vibes, everyone. Lows in the teens tomorrow AM, but sunny and warming to the mid/upper 30s. Layers and "warmers" will be the rule of the day.

Returning Sunday afternoon and will post whatever happens...

Good luck out there!

I’m heading out again on Monday for a few days. White tail and mule deer are both open where I’m headed, so I’ll take whichever (if either) comes along. I may buy a moose tag as well since I saw some in the area I’m headed too as well when I went through on my way to turkey town.
