Kick'n the can

Post by GunnyGene » Sun Aug 03, 2025 8:08 am

Picked up a Holosun 507K for my 365XL a few days ago. Installed it, but didn't get out to zero it until yesterday. Didn't feel like setting up a regular paper target so tossed a can of pork 'n beans out in the grass about 10yds. Shot from a kneel w/pistol braced on the porch rail.

Wow! Hit the can on the first shot! And the 2nd, 3rd....... Out of 12 rnds only missed 2. No elevation or windage tweaks at all. Can ended up around 12 yds out. First time I've ever had a reflex sight be dead on right out of the box. Yea, Holosun! :D

I decided on the 507k instead of the 407, due to the 507 having the selectable reticles. I prefer the circle after sighting in with the dot only. Easier to find the circle, and accuracy is acceptable at pistol distances. :)

I have the 510C on a rifle and my TS-12 shotgun, since both have rails. It's Shake Awake w/Solar Failsafe (doesn't recharge the battery, but that's ok.)

Nice, always fun to find the optics are close, unusual to find them dead on.

I used to pick up the lost softballs, baseballs, tennis, and golfballs while patrolling county rec facilities on midnight shift and toss them in my go bag in the trunk of the unit. When I got home I would toss the various balls in a tub in my range house at the farm. The kids and I would roll them down the range with the 22 rifles and handguns. I would also put eyebolts in them and hang them on the range. The kids loved swinging and spinning them, slow fire. Started with softballs for the size, then worked down thru baseballs, tennis balls to golf balls as their skillsets improved. Excellent training, immediate feedback to the kids and fun while they learned. :)

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can't do anymore with regret, I just look forward to the things I still can.
