Ford 8N
Cold weather is on it's way. My neighbor owns this Ford and he recently had surgery, so he won't be able to plow this season again. I decided I would be proactive and not wait till it's-20 and blowing to check starter circuits
She starts ok when warm, but when cold it's all got to be just right. He mows 3 acres with it all summer

Nice old tractor and nice of you to lend a hand. There was one like that on the farm just up the road from where I lived in Lancaster County Pa. back in the 1950's.

I used to drive one of those 35 years ago when I spent a few summers in the alfalfa fields.

Me, too, when a friend and I worked on her grandfather's ranch for a summer job in college. Great memories.ditchparrot wrote:I used to drive one of those 35 years ago when I spent a few summers in the alfalfa fields.

Good looking Tractor, but I don't believe it's an 8N. I believe he has a 9N or a 2N there. I had a 2N. Most people never heard of a 2 and would just mistakenly call it a 9. My 2N was a 1946. I ran it for 10 years and then moved up to a larger Tractor. Those Tractors were the most popular of their time and it's still pretty easy to get parts for them.

Reading up, except for a 3 speed trans. everything is 8N. And he says it's a 48 ??
Knowing Ford it may be both
All I know is he plowed Mom and My drives for over 10 years and wouldn't even take gas $$
Now with health issues, it's the least I can do to take over plowing. Good ole boy I've known
since I have any memories

Re: Ford 8N
A lot of people call them all "8"'s, but google some pictures of some 9's and 2's and compare the Rear Wheel Hub area to some 8's. There are also some other different features, but that one is the most outstanding one to me in the picture. There are also Date Codes in different places. The Rear Axle Housing is one place where I found it on my '46 2N.
But don't get me wrong, even though the 8's were more improved, they are all great Tractors.
Nice of your neighbor to plow for no charge. Also nice of you to take over.
I also plow in the winter. Not just my driveway and sometimes my neighbor's when his Tractor is down, but our gravel Road too, lol.

Now that's a tractor, and an antique that can still be used today.
Love to have an old Ford.

Round here we call those "red bellied Fords" (except that one is grey). They drive just like an old pickup truck - great old tractors...
