Mounting Crossfire II on Golden Boy

I gave my grandson a Crossfire II 4-12x44 for his Golden Boy. In order to get adequate eye relief, I had to place both tube rings in front of the elevation/windage knobs. Since the mount cantilevers off the barrel, the assembly as a whole deflects somewhat under even slight pressure if touched. It works but is delicate. I'd like to do better for him.

What scope ($200-$250 price range) and mount do you guys recommend for these rifles?

No personal experience with the cantilevered mount so here’s a “maybe”.

Local guy has a Vortex Crossfire 2-7x32 Scout scope for sale at a good price of $100. Not sure if a scout scope would have too much eye relief for your rifle. Anyway it’s something to consider.

Barely used Vortex crossfire2 scout scope. Had it mounted on a .308 scout rifle. Wasn’t fond of it. About 6 months old.

I tend to agree with him about not fond of it.

I really like the Golden Boys but the stock drop on those rifles just doesnt make things very easy for me anyway no matter whether its a scope or iron sights
