Still makin' smoke...

Post by RanchRoper » Sun May 19, 2024 1:31 pm

No targets to show, ringing steel gongs pretty much all the time now. The range has steel at 25/50/75/100/125/150 yards. Was hitting some steel plates at the 125 yd distance today, pretty happy with that. Practice for the July long weekend rendezvous match. :)

Pedersoli Frontier flintlock, 60 grains 3f Schutzen, .490 ball, .010 patch.

Made some the other day myself with the Woodsrunner. First time shooting it. Like it alot. Just need more practice than once a year. 60 grains of Old E 2f and a 495 ball with .018 patch.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Yeah, still tempted to join in the fun, but I have too many guns to shoot as it is, plus sourcing actual black powder, caps and such is a real headache in our area.

You can buy caps on line at several places but like everything else the price of them has tripled. Rocks are cheaper by a long shot. Go flintlock and your troubles are over.

I try to alternate each time I shoot; caps one time, flint the next.

I have the same "issue" as you NCG. Too many deserving shootables to start something new. I would go with a flintlock if I did get one. Not in the cards at this moment.

Ranch Roper, that photograph of you shooting is AWESOME

Might as well keep this thread alive. I went out today with a younger man I met a couple years ago. He has an interest in BP also and is currently building a Kibler Woodsrunner kit. He has quite a few Hawkens and Lemans in various calibers. He also hunts with them and has take deer, antelope and Im not sure about an elk but next time I see him I will ask. He is a Lieutenant for the Greeley Fire Dept and is a very good you man. We shot BP today at some steel and I shot the Woodsrunner again today. I shot quite a bit better today than last time out. Ill try to get some pics next time out. It was a fun day makin smoke
