I have one of these in a 338 Win Mag. 338 is an awesome round and this Savage of mine is a great rifle.
https://www.sportsmans.com/shooting-gea ... e/p/p42242 Ive got a Burris 4.5 x 14 scope on it. Ive mainly shot factory ammo through it. I like Barnes Vor-Tx ammo and this Savage shoots it well. A couple of years ago I bought two boxes of just the bullets. TTSX 225 grain Barnes Bullets. At that time factory ammo was around 40.00 a box. I played with reloading for it a little but just figured since I only use it for Elk hunting I would just use factory ammo. Well now since ammo has gone way up and things are scarce back to the reloading bench I went. 62.00 a box for ammo made me pay attention. Today I went out to the grassland to check some loads. I had a bingo on the last load I checked. Savage rifles have always been one of my favs. They turn out some good accuracy. I also shot the 50 cal Hawken today.Nothin like makin smoke on the prairie.
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: Savage Bear Hunter
I've never owned a Savage Rifle but have several friends who have and they think the world of them .... there is no doubt about the capability of a 335 Win Mag ammo .... what distance were you firing at the target .. .. they are deep penetrators that deliver a very heavy blow

Re: Savage Bear Hunter
That was 100 yards off bags on a bench. Loads were Barnes brass with Barnes 225gr TTSX bullets. Driven by 72 grains of IMR 4831 with a Fed Large rifle mag primer. Book says 2749 FPS and 3900 Ftlbs of energy at the muzzle. Ive owned a couple of Savage rifles and they have both been shooters.

Re: Savage Bear Hunter
Most Savage rifles are capable of some pretty incredible accuracy. Not sure on the later low priced models like the Axis but the old 110, 1112, 10, 12 etc are great shooters. I have a mid 90’s production .223 competition rifle that shoots less than 1/2 moa with my hand loads.
Hopefully yours has the muzzle brake shown in your link on it. I’m sure that .338 is a bruiser but even more so for the big bull in it’s sights.
Here’s a pic of my target when I was working up a load for my Savage. Selected load is bullseye number 3, that’s a five shot group. Man that rifle can shoot. Sierra 77 grain match king HP over 23.5 grains of Varget with CCI bench rest primers.

Re: Savage Bear Hunter
Hatch nice shooting for sure. My other Savage was a 112 bull barrel in 223. Synthetic stock blue barrel. It wasnt fancy to look at but if I did my part like yours it would shoot 1/2 inch groups all day long.

Re: Savage Bear Hunter
Al, back in the 90's, I had a Savage 112 FVS, synthetic stock and blued 26" heavy barrel in 22-250. That was one accurate rifle! In a moment of silliness, I sold it. Savage makes some mighty accurate rifles, no doubt.
