Your Favorite Fishing Rod
30 some years ago I purchased a Bass Pro Boron 5' 8" Med Hvy Spinning Rod >>> https://www.fishingtalks.com/photos-of- ... 75315.html .... it instantly became my favorite rod when fishing for anything larger than pan fish .... the only thing I didn't like about it was the way the reel was attached .... 2 compression rings that pressed the reel seat down into the cork handle .... after a while I had to cut leather shims to maintain the pressure required to keep the reel in place .... eventually, I had the OEM handle replaced with the one shown below .... I have 3 rods that I always pack when we hit the road .... for some reason that I don't understand at all, when we got to South Dakota and I got out my gear to go walleye fishing, I didn't pack the Boron rod .... sure did miss having it and am going to make sure its in the camper from now on .... just wondering, what's your favorite fishing rod and would enjoy knowing a bit about it

My favorite fly rod is my Helios 6wt with a pond mouse tied on.
My favorite regular rod is my heavy frog rod paired with my baitcaster loaded with a four inch Ribbet.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...

I have fly fishing equipment and really wish I enjoyed using it .... I used to enjoying using a bait caster for bass but those days are gone .... sounds like you practice the big bait or big fish philosophy .... not a bad way to go, not bad at allBrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 1:47 pmMy favorite fly rod is my Helios 6wt with a pond mouse tied on. My Fenwick Ultra Lite with an older ,but, in perfect condition, Mitchell 308 reel. Many of trout have come to the surface with that set up. One of my favorite baits: "Steak and eggs"!= treble hook, aired up night crawler, small marshmallow and some gawd awful garlic juice. Trout cannot resist!

I'm not going to ask how or why you came to experiment with that concoction, but that it works is really interesting. Thanks for sharing it.

Eastern Sierra trout fisherman: we'll try anything! Probably had something to do with booze. But, boy, it works for lake fishing.

Don’t know the vintage. This is a True Temper Raider. 4’ spring steel. Square shaft. My dad used this to teach me to pan fish in Arkansas, mid 50’s. It hangs on the wall now, with his Japanese bamboo fly rod. Great keepsakes.

Very nice Cofisher, very nice. That Japanese fly rod reminds me of my Grandpa; he used to make fly rods from bamboo from the Philippine's back in the 20's and 30's with a British( I think) reel. Man, I wish I had one now for keeps sake, but, alas. Fishing rods seem to have a certain allure to them. The old ones.
