I second the notion that the W is for Wisconsin. I think that occurred when production of the centerfire rifles (and shotguns) was moved from 'Jersey. I might've even read it somewhere, since it was kind of a big deal here :) .

Centerfire Brass receiver rifles are still made in NJ.

I would expect so. The picture of the receiver shows ColorCase not brass.
