Behind the barn 1/13/20

Post by Vaquero » Mon Jan 13, 2020 8:00 pm

Got home in time to make a quick trip out to the barn.
Trying out a load using 2400, a 255 gr lfn 45 colt, my one book showed 15.4.
I had loaded 15, so I did 3, 5 shot groups, with roughly 5 minutes between.
Started at the, top left then to the right.
In the bottom pic you can see I screwed that one up.
That group was from the sled.

The distance was 50 yds. and the Cowboy.

I will say they do have a little more recoil than my Unique load.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Al, according to 2 different manuals it was the only load.

Fourty 9.5 to 10.0 can't really tell much difference.

You probably wont find much for lead bullets with 2400. All of mine show 2400 with jacketed bullets.

Your right Al, was just trying this out as a test.
Believe it was Tom that was asking about it the other day.

Have you tried 8-8.5 gr. of Unique? Works really well in my 1873 Uberti/Winchester with a 250 255 gr. lead bullet.

Not in the Cowboy, but have in the Rugers some time back.
When I first got the Cowboy, I was shooting some light loads that I had used in the pistols.
I was getting some blow back in the face.
A couple buddies from another forum recommended the 10.0 gr load, saying it worked great in both their Henrys.

I will give it a try though.

I mentioned this in another thread. That 8 to 8.5 load of UNique works for alot of people so I read but I have not ever had any luck with that load in the Colt. Next time I try Unique in the Colt I will be starting at the 9.5 range.
