Wrangler at the range
Wrangler at the range
I found a good deal on a new Ruger Wrangler a couple of months ago, and I’ve had it at the range quite a few times now.
The thing I like best about it is that it seems to be well made for the price. The finish is nice, and seems to be durable. It’s pretty impressive that Ruger can make a gun that’s basically a Single-Six, and sell if for $200 instead of the $500+ that a Single-Six costs.
At the range, I’ve been frustrated with it. I just can’t shoot it well. Yes, I bought it to be a “plinker,” and it’s good for that. But you know how things go- it’s too tempting to shoot at smaller and more distant targets.
The gun is made too tight. I suspect Ruger didn’t want to make a loose gun that rattles, and instead made it with tolerances that are too close. Everything is stiff once it gets a little dirty. I suppose over time it will loosen up.
Would I buy it again? Yes.
Is it better than the competition? I think so. The only real direct competitor is the Heritage Roughrider. They tend to be cheaper ($99.99 on Black Friday), but they’re not made as well.
A good deal at $200 or less? Yes, Ruger always gives value.

Re: Wrangler at the range
I was going to buy one when they first came out.
Even went by one of the LGS's, but he hadn't gotten ant in yet.
I did see one Wed. for $200, but I was really wanting to look at some Side gate Henrys, but
all he had was a few BBB and some rimfires.
I bet over time it will smooth up.
Keep us informed please.

Re: Wrangler at the range
One thing I've found that helps shooting small, lightweight SAs like the even smaller Ruger Bearcat is a firmer than average grip, which insures that the unwon't bounce in your hands at the shot. Yes, even a lightweight 22 can bounce around in your grip with a delicate hold. Might be something to try, anyway.
Thanks for the report.

Re: Wrangler at the range
I have had mine out a few times now. It shoots great. At first it took a little getting used to. After a few hundred rounds I am pretty good with it. The sights are right on. I am very happy with it. Well worth the $189 I picked it up for.

Looks really good and yes much better than the Heritage Arms which I own.
Basically it looks to be a great tin can popper from 20 ft. which is where the fun is with some CCI Quiets!
Will go well with a .22 Henry lever rifle!

Re: Wrangler at the range
Just picked up Two on Monday for $179.00. I went in to purchase the silver edition for a Xmas gift for my grandson to start him on pistol, and picked up a black one to shoot with him. Have to wait for Xmas to shoot it. And yes, it is tight, but should loosen up after a hundred rounds or so, which won't take long for Jr. !

Re: Wrangler at the range
I picked one up recently for $171 employee pricing, well worth the money in my opinion. I have had a ball with it and after a couple of boxes it is a little less tight. Give it some time.
