Another dumb newbie question!

Post by Albertaktm » Tue Nov 26, 2019 9:56 pm

What is every one using for gun bags for the Henry Big Boy series rifles? Not using a scope on this rife plus being only 38” long, they just slop around in most cases. Soft or hard case, I’m open ti all suggestions

Make sure your hard case has some quality 'eggshell' foam in it that closes tightly down on the rifle when closed.

Yes. If I go the hard case route, it will be a Pelican style case. Pricey but the best. Kind of hoping to get a soft case but I will see what I can find. It’s slopping around in one of my Cabela soft cases for now

PT7 gave me a RedHead soft case this summer. It is doing a good job protecting my steel carbine. I used a cheaper hard case previously. It was just adequate.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

I have a couple of hard cases, but 99% of the time my lever guns are just in inexpensive soft cases. The ones I have are made by “Gunmate”. I bought them a lot of years ago, and they have no signs of wear at all. Nice thick foam in them, and beefy cordura outer. I also have a nice Ruger soft case that has a big side pocket for ammo etc. None of my cases cost more than $40, and I’ve never had any damage to my guns even when there is 8-12 of them stacked up in the back seat of the truck.

My daughter bought me a soft case that I transport my rifles in. I have a hard case. But, it does not see much action.

I saw those. They look nice. Seems like you could put a scoped rifle in them. From what I have seen, I'm thinking a soft shotgun case may be the way to go. If I can fine one short enough!

Another hard case option is to cut and fit some closed cell polyethylene packing foam in your hard case. Trace and cut out a shaped, 'relief' depression in the bottom section for the rifle to 'nest' in and the top section will compress down when shut
A careful job on this will result in a snug and secure way to prevent movement of the rifle in the case.
