Henry long ranger .308 magazine

Post by Lucky2535 » Fri Nov 08, 2019 7:40 pm

I realize this gun comes with the four round box magazine which theoretically makes it 4+1...Are there larger capacity magazines available? or is this gun restricted to the four round box magazine due to the action of the lever?...

Welcome to the forum from CT. Glad you joined us.

Just looking at their website, it appears larger magazine are not available from HRA, but spare magazines are. https://henrypride.com/collections/rifle-parts
I'm sure you'll hear from other members who may know more about it.

Henry's Long Ranger is patterned after Browning's BLR .... we have a first generation BLR .... when we bought it, we also purchased a second magazine and I'm sure glad we did .... that magazine is no longer available and sell for awfully high prices .... I'd strongly recommend folks with either rifle buy at least one (if not two or more) spare magazines .... so far as I know, the only magazines available are designed to hold up to 4 rounds

.
Action of the lever blocks the possibility of a larger magazine. However the .223/5.56 version of the LR magazine is 5+1. All others are 4+1.

You might be able to fiddle a little with the magazine to make it 5+1. In the magazine that came with my LR .223/6.56, I was able to mash the spring a little bit to make it fit 6+1. The original magazine lift plate was metal. I got a 2nd magazine and the lift plate in it is thicker (red) plastic. Was not able to get it hold 6.

Appreciate that Mags...I knew that about the .223 but my heart is set on the .308 I’m just going to buy a couple extra “mags”!

My oldest son, after the fact, told me I should have gotten the .308. Oh well.

If the magazine you get with the .308 has a metal lift plate, cycle the lever a bunch of times and see if the bottom of the bolt creates gouges the metal lift plate top and tiny bits of loose metal from the lift plate. If it does tell HenryCS about it. I did and they sent me a newer designed magazine with the plastic lift plate at no cost. The plastic doesn't gouge as bad and the plastic bits I do get are harmless to the inner mechanics of the action.

I wrote about this in an older post before you joined.
