Grouse

Post by Rifletom » Wed Nov 06, 2019 1:15 pm

While looking at some of these older posts, especially about grouse, I remember hunting Ruffed Grouse in Idaho in Oct 2018.
We'd see them on the back roads in the mountains. Just standing there. Dave would have to toss pine cones at 'em to get them to fly! Then I'd shoot. I won't ground sluice them. Or, they would land in the lowest branch of the first tree they could get to. Suicide birds! They would just look at you! Amazing. But, they sure taste good. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Chased a blue grouse 49 years ago in the Rockies. Ended up taking him with a rock. Dumbass birds. Taste good tho.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

I recall walking in the woods at about 6 years of age and spotting a grouse next to the trail. I walked right up to it and since it did not move I thought it was dead and picked it up. It was warm so I set it back down and stood up. 2 seconds later this bird exploded up into the air and I about crapped myself in surprise. Never forgot that moment. :o

back home in the mountains of NC when we went pheasant hunting we were actually hunting grouse ... I'd hunted them for several years before I found out that our pheasants weren't really pheasants .. :? ..
