Opinions on Browning Buck Mark .22

Post by If1Hitu » Thu Oct 03, 2019 11:09 am

Anyone here own a Browning Buck Mark .22 pistol? How dose it measure up to Ruger Mark I II III IV & S&W Victory pistols?

I love mine, but it's not exactly stock. It was plenty accurate and reliable right out of the box though.

I had an early Gen 1 Buckmark with the slab sided barrel.
Shot well, no feeding problems and VERY accurate with a good trigger if I remember correctly.
I did not like how the barrel was secured with just one cap screw. It kept coming loose. I probably could have resolved this with some Locktite but never got 'around to it'.
Ultimately it began to feel 'cheap' to me (remember to ME) due to it's relatively light frame weight and heavy barrel but it was very well built.
Ultimately lost interest and sold.
How dose it measure up to Ruger Mark I II III IV & S&W Victory pistols?
I wouldn't put S & W 'Victory' pistols in the same category as either the Ruger or the Browning however from handling an shooting Ruger 'Marks' (not owning) I believe the Rugers are vastly superior to the Browning, especially the Mark II & 1V models.

Personally I despise S & W for using the historical name of a classic WW II era pistol on a modern polymer .22. Pure sacrilege!

I would say that the Browning Buckmark measures up very well to a Ruger Mk4. We have a Ruger Mk4 Hunter and a Browning Buckmark Plus Rosewood UDX - both are well made, fun little 22LR pistols, but the Browning is our favorite between the two - mostly because it is lighter and feels better in the hand than the Ruger - making it easier to shoot.

I thought S&w Victories have SS slides, frames, and barrels. Where is the polymer?

Where is the polymer?
I stand corrected.
I had the S & W Victory .22 confused with another brand of .22 pistol that DOES have a polymer frame.

Update - I had no practical understanding of the S & W Victory .22 so I did a little research and am very impressed!
I place this gun in the category of the Ruger Mark III & IV.

I gotta say I like the Ruger 22/44 ultra lite better than the standard Mark pistols. I liked the Buckmarks I owned but there screws will strip out easy if not careful.

Have never shot a Buckmark or a Ruger Mark but I have a Browning Challenger II. Is probably a lot more accurate than my level of proficiency.
