Re: New old guy in town.
Thanks for the welcome.
I was having issues with the magazine tube. When the rifle was warmed up it was absolutely impossible to pull the mag tube. I was shooting some cast reloads this morning and it kept getting worse. I farted around with trying different combos of looser screws and apparently got the set screw for the outer tube too loose and the tube started walking out under recoil. I farted around with it some more at the shooting bench but I didn't really have the tools and walked back up to the house and started looking on line. I disassembled the forearm, and tube and cleaned up a small burr at the set screw hole in the outer tube. It's all back together now but I'll have to shoot it to make sure I've solved it. Way too hot to go back out this afternoon. I'll update when I've had a chance to test it.
On the bright side I was getting decent (but not great!) groups out of the load I was testing.

Welcome and glad you are addressing your issue. Have you reached out to Henry yet?

GFK - I'm leaning toward the small burr on the inside of the outer tube as a probable cause of the initial issue. The tube walking out on me was self induced. After I've had a chance to shoot it again I'll find I've either fixed it or I'll need to talk to Henry.

Larry: I was thinking more of the tube warming issue you describe. It may be due to the load. But, I do not reload. So, I cannot comment on that. However, I suspect that it should not be an issue. Does the same thing happen with factory loads?

I've only shot about 1 box of factory rounds (Hornady leverevolution 320gr) through it. I've had it about 7-8 years and had some unrelated shoulder issues develop not long after I got it so it sat in the safe for several years.
The loads I'm shooting are pretty "light", 39gr 3031 under a 420 gr cast bullet.
I'll know more once I get a chance to shoot it again. maybe this weekend it it doesn't get outrageously hot again.
