Re: The real you
Ruger No1 single shot in 300 Holland & Holland.
My load was a 180gr Barnes Tipped Triple Shock over IMR7828 Short Cut powder with a Fed 215 primer in Hornady brass.
I am not mentioning the powder charge as I had the throat cut 0.2” long on this rifle, so I could seat the bullets out and increase the powder charge. MV was 3,150 FPS.
Scope is a Leopold VX-6 2-12x.
The rifle/scope/load worked great on the whole spectrum - from 25 pound Jackals to 1,800 pound Eland and from 25 yard moving shots to 300 yards.

Zebra is actually quite good. Just be sure to trim all the fat off!
We ate quite a few different animals and they were all good to great.

Re: The real you
You are correct, sir!
No such thing as leftovers in most of Africa.
Even more true where I am headed in two months - Zimbabwe (as opposed to South Africa in 2015).

Re: The real you
interesting .... impressive specs, very close to those of our 300 WBY Mag with the same powder .... info appreciated .... I've never hunted over there and doubt I ever will but its good to know we have a rifle capable of doing so

Re: The real you
Many consider the 300 Magnum marginal for Eland, and I agree that one should be very careful on placement and angles - not much margin for error.
But for the "smaller" stuff like Waterbuck, Zebra, Kudu, Wildebeest, Gemsbok etc, I think it is ideal, with premium bullets of course.
Good bullets in the right place is always the best prescription!

Re: The real you
Hunting is all about bullet placement. If one is not capable of a humane kill...then don't even try. I love animals and will eat them as well! Nothing should suffer though, when avoidable.
