April 6th BP Plink'n
Well, I decided yesterday was going to be a black powder plinking day, kinda in remembrance of the anniversary of the battle of Shiloh which isn't very far from here.
So I pulled a couple of the colt copies, an 1851 Navy and the 1862, both in 44.
And also the 54 cal. Renegade, believe or not it's been sitting in the mancave loaded for over 2 years.
It went off without a hitch and slapped the big gong with authority. Hit the gong 2 out of the next 3 shots and then set up a paper target. I definitely ain't no RR.
Then I moved on to the pistolas, first the 1851. These were around 12-13 yds. First shot is the high center shot.
And last was the '62, first shot with it is the one closest to the center then I drifted upward, as you can see two off the paper.
One is just off the paper and the other right under the pistol on the pallet. These don't get shot very regular and it shows, but had fun and ringing the steel is always enjoyable.
I prefer the 1858 to these two as far as sights go and the ease in which they come apart to clean or even swapping cylinders for quicker reloads. But, I didn't get it out yesterday.
Think I'll try some regular cartridge stuff today.
Oh, I'd rather clean two rifles as to one revolver, so many more places to get to.

Sounds like you had a fun day Randy. I haven’t shot BP in years. I always liked the smell.

That looks really fun. It sure looks and sounds like you had a very good time. That's a nice assortment of guns too.
I've never tried BP.

Atta Boy Randy get those smoke poles out. Im gonna do more of that this year for sure. Plus one on the revolter cleaning in BP. Its not to much fun. Knew a few guys who threw their Ruger stainless old armys in the dishwasher. Round here mom might not like that to much

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Excellent. I've always admired the rugged simple beauty of the Renegade. Actually prefer the looks to the TC Hawken with its brass. That always seems a bit flashy to me. What kind of load do you use in the Renegade?

Thanks NCG, I also have a Hawken in .50 cal. Mine has the dull patina which I like. Just like my Big Boy 44.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2024 3:58 pmExcellent. The load I was shooting yesterday was 95 grs. of 2F with a 325 gr. sabot. That shoots pretty good from the bench.

Nice tribute shoot RP. None of us are Roper but you come close enough. Holes in paper equals meat in the freezer.

Re: April 6th BP Plink'n
I used to love shooting BP with a guy who was my high school science teacher and my best friend, who was his son-in-law. The teacher was way into it. He moved to Montana a couple of decades ago and I haven't seen him since. My best friend recently retired as a sheriff's deputy and lives in the middle of Nevada, which is truly the middle of nowhere. I never had quite enough interest in it to acquire my own stuff -- for many years I was all about upland bird hunting with my dogs. Would like to do it again before my time is up.
