Varmint (H001V) Issues

Post by Bad Bob » Tue Jan 28, 2020 6:26 pm

Found a good deal on a Varmnt Express at a local ranch/lumber store that is also a Henry dealer.
Installed a 3X9 scope and took it to my local gun club. I Icould not get it on paper from 50 yards, using all available travels on the scope and holding off the (18") target in every direction.
Tried another scope with same results.
Removed scope and using fiber optic open sights, rifle shoots 8" low and 3" left. My thinking is that since BOTH front and rear open sights are mounted on the barrel, I was able to get on paper since the sights are probably installed utilizing a fixture.
I do not know whether the barrel is threaded into the action or staked into place, but my logic tells me that the grooved receiver is somehow misaligned with the rifles bore.
Your thoughts??
I have sent the rifle back to the factory....I NEED TO USE A SCOPE (Old Eyes)

Just a thought but did you bore sight the rifle with the scope prior to trying it out?

I had a similar experience with my Frontier 17hmr. Was super hard to sight in at 50 yards through the scope. The scope is pretty much nearly maxed out on windage. I haven't sent it in yet, but am planning on it. Also have an issue with some pretty big pits in the blueing on the barrel.

Agree with Jim Bob and Pudsky you should also send yours back. I would not hesitate to do it.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
