New Henry SGC has Arrived!

Post by shootinthecinders » Sun Aug 25, 2019 8:30 pm

It has great balance; right in front of the lever on the receiver. This is the first firearm I’ve ever ordered without having an opportunity to try it out. I had shouldeef the classic H001 rifle and carbine but didn’t care for the carbine. Next shouldered a frontier rifle but found it a little muzzle heavy. Not bad but not what I was looking for. The Small Game Carbine is perfect for me.
After cleaning her up, the barrel and outer mag tube were dirty, I tried some Aguila Colibri through it. I could only shoot 30’ offhand but it cycled well. I only achieved 1/2” to 3/4” groups so I don’t know if it was me or the ammo; probably me. I removed the peep and will try it later without it. It’s definitely easier and faster to pickup the front sight.
I came prepared with bore light, flashlight, and magnifying glass to inspect it thoroughly. Only missed one thing because of the dirty barrel. It had chatter marks, not as many as my .357/.38 BBB has, but a few. They don’t affect the accuracy of my Big Boy so I imagine they won’t affect this one either.
There were two very small unpainted marks on the edge of the receiver so I asked about correcting that in the store. They allowed me to removed the stock and the sales guy touched it up with the Birchwood Casey Super Black glossy marker. It blended perfectly and I decided to keep the gun.
I’m very grateful for this forum as one of the members here had contacted Patrick at Henry and that was the very touch up marker he recommended.
Well, enough posting. I think this may turn out to be one of my favorite firearms.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that they knocked off $33.00 because it came when they were having an in store sale.

"I think this may turn out to be one of my favorite firearms"

I have no doubt about that...you will definitely enjoy it. The SGC is a popular and very accurate-shooting Henry rifle. Glad the B-C paint brought your receiver up to your satisfaction. One last comment. The SGC I shot rarely had any chambering problems with various ammo brands I used. It's a smooth-operating lever action.

Congrats & Enjoy.😊

Thanks PT7 and RanchRoper. I cycled a full mag tube of lr/l/s with ease. Oh, except when I first loaded the shorts with 17 instead of 16. That’s what I get for going on memory. No problem removing it though.

I know mine is. Took some time to adjust to the peep sights but once I played with it a while and got it adjusted those clay pigeons on the bank were breaking in to pieces with it.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

What distance were you shooting?
I don’t know how to explain it but this carbine just feels like a shooter.

You're joining many very happy SGC owners here, congrats! Very likely we all had the same first impressions about the nice balance and "shootabiity" of this carbine. Don't give up on the peeps too soon; once you get them dialed in, it's a plinker's dream!

Congrats again!
