Upgraded H001 rear sight

Post by badrat55 » Mon Apr 22, 2019 11:33 am

I had an extra Marbles semi buckhorn like comes standard on the GB's, so I stuck it on my H001.
Man what a difference!
I love this sight on my GB and it is far better than the factory H001 sight!

Is the height correct or adjustable? Looks like a great sight.

I think the stock rear sight on the H001 is the worst in the industry. The front is the second worst.

Nice job in replacing it. I must do the same.

Looks like he's using the same "notched ramp" that the original used....but it's adjustable.

.
The sight with the screw has two vertical adjustments. The notched ramp is like a coarse adjustment. The screw allows the insert to be moved up/dn for a 'fine' adjust that falls between notches in the ramp.

Ditto on the rear - and I think I have said similar previously.
The front however is not too bad - and the one off my Henry was on my '66 commemorative Winchester for a while - and paired pretty well with the Williams receiver rear - until I bought the globe from Esquared and swapped it out.

That rear sight, with the adjustable insert, comes on the Frontiers as well. I raised the insert about as far as it can go, first, because I'm not really much of a fan of buckhorn type sights. I like the top as flat as possible, if I leave it on. A Skinner peep or scope is more likely to be in its future, though.

I have a H001ML that I shorten the barrel by 3" so the OEM sight and the Skinner barrel and receiver mount peeps worked all about the same and satisfactory I knew something better had to be available. I came across the Marbles Bullseye Peep that is a barrel mount and I am impressed. This sight is fantastic as far as I am concerned. Fast, easy on old eyes, and under $30.00. I shoot my mare's leg with a cheek weld which makes a short sight radius open sights a problem to begin with. I have no eye fatigue with the Bullseye sight.
