Brass Screws on Stock of H001

Post by Henry88 » Fri Mar 08, 2019 2:29 am

Hey all,

I thought I had a topic on this, but I guess it was the old forum :D

So on my classic, there was a really small area of the grain ( almost a knot) on the stock that was at a critical point , where it dovetails into the receiver, and it failed.

So I glued it back, with this "wupti/doo" Walmart space age glue; which needless to say failed after a few months.

To make matters worse, the clamps that I used on the failed repair (my bad) left ("C") marks on the stock.

My first thoughts were self deprecating, but then I thought I thought the interlocking "C"s looked cool, like some kind of "Brand" from a "Triple "C" Ranch or something.......

Fast forward 2 years and this "wupti/doo Walmart space age glue" fails and I use a conventional wood glue, but this time I reinforced it with small (1/64) brass screws :D

So it looks like h*ll, but...it's definitely my gun :D

When making any stock repairs I have found that Brownell's Acra-glas gel will be about 100% sure that it will hold and never break there again. I have never fixed a cracked stock that didn't hold with the Acra-glas. It is also easy to dye to match the wood.
