Which one?

Post by markiver54 » Thu Jan 03, 2019 5:20 pm

Ok guys & gals...every time I buy a new gun, I tell the wife; this is the last one. Now that I have the Henry bug and have my BBS 357 I'm considering, If I can pull it off :| getting one more if I decide I can afford it. I want a .22 . My question is ; if you HAD to choose only one, which would it be? I'm thinking magnum. I have an old Anschutz bolt action single shot .22 lr already. Help! :?

A lot of good ones out there. If you want new I hear the CZ's are great shooters. I have a Ruger 10-22 purchased several years ago that also shoots very well. Henry SGC has good reviews here on the forum as well. One of my best shooters is a Marlin .22 WMR model 783. I don't know what the equivalent model is in .22 lr but searching the Marlin forum should yeild results.

I'm interested in the Frontier 24inch 22mag.

With the three main rimfire rounds - 22 LR, 22 Mag and 17 HMR - my experience is that the 22 mag is the least predictable of the three as far as what you'll get for accuracy when buying a new gun. In other words, I always get a little nervous when buying a 22 mag rifle because I can never be sure what I will get for accuracy. When I do get a good one, though, I keep it. Love the round.

My experience with the 17 HMR has been much more consistent, one gun to the next.

Sorry, can't help you on the Henry rimfires, if you're wanting to stay with a Henry. Sure you'll get all kinds of help on that one, though. :)

I just love my regular 'ol Henry H001.

I only use CCI Mini-Mags (22LR) in it.

It's also very accurate to boot.

I want to go ahead and thank everyone who takes the time to respond. Would like to get as many opinions as possible and then try to make a decision. Then muster up the funds when I decide, if possible.

Ditto what North Country Gal said.

A bolt action 17 HMR with a fixed 10x is a plinking, small varmint shooter's dream to 125 yards and maybe more (depends on you). The longer the barrel the better speed for distance, up to 22". A Ruger "All American" starts the selection process with a 16 incher.

See Varmint Al (even though its dated):

My first, 14" barrel, 2 pound trigger:

I guess it depends on what you’re going to use the rifle for. I love my H004 Golden Boy in 22LR. Great for inexpensive plinking.
