Got the .070 aperture in the mail today from Skinner. It’s definitely tighter (obviously!) than the .096 but until I sit a target out at 25 yds I won’t have anything to compare to.

I’m up to 4 coats of linseed now, and it’s starting to look better. I think a couple more and I’ll have it where I’m happy.

I thought it great looking in your first posts. Can't wait to see what it looks like when you're satisfied!

Store in a dry place when not in use. I've seen linseed oil treated wood grow a light coat of mold when stored in even a slightly damp basement.

That’s weird. Gunstocks have been coated with linseed for eons. If it’s completely dry it should never mold. I keep all my firearms in a safe in the main living area of my house so it should be fine.

I’ve got 5 coats of oil on the wood now, and it’s at a point where I will leave it for a while. Hunting season starts next weekend, so it will be used as is until end of December. Then I’ll re-assess if I want some more coats after it’s seen some bush time.

On a side note, I’m not very impressed with the rubber o-ring used to hold the feed tube in place. Somehow in the 3x I’ve had the Carbine out of the safe, it’s managed to get lost TWICE. That’s not acceptable in my world. I can’t image how fast it will fall off in real world use! I’m off to the auto parts store to find a significantly tighter size. And I’m buying 3 of them!

That issue gets posted about from time to time. Other folks posted about going to the ACE or TrueValue or other hardware stores where they have drawers of loose o-rings. Allows try for fit before one buys. With auto part stores around here they are all prepackaged and if you open the package you are expected to buy it, even if its not the right fit.

My parts store is better than that. I got to try before I bought. I bought 6 for $1.03 total. My main concern is losing the plunger in the woods. The ones I bought seem to be a bit tighter, so here’s hoping!

I really like the refinish of the gun. I wish I had the talent to do that. I have both the 22 and the 22 mag of that gun. I havent tried any other apertures in mine yet but I sure do like the SGC.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
