New Goldenboy rifling question
I have a new Henry Goldenboy. It groups around 4" at 25 yards with high velocity ammo. Not the good stuff. But my question is what does everyone else's rifling look like at the crown. Mine stops 1/8" from the end of the barrel and crown.
Called Henry they said it should come all the way to the end of the barrel but they did not ask to see pictures.
Does anyone else have a crown or rifling like this before I send it back to Henry ?

it most certainly needs to go back and Henry will take care of making it right

I agree and if its not shooting groups that it should be shooting then I would also send it back for that. Its frustrating to do that but I know they will make it right. Been there done that. Al

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: New Goldenboy rifling question
This got me thinking about mine. I have octagon barrel on my .30-30. Glancing and squinting at the muzzle it initially looks like the rifling is missing. Took a really bright light and then I could barely make out the rifling. Looking down the barrel, with a light shining into the receiver, the rifling is faintly visible about 1/2 way up from the receiver, after that too dark to see until I examine the muzzle under the bright light. How pronounced is the rifling supposed to be in a Henry? In my Rossi .22 the rifling readily visible.

30-30 specs are .300 bore .308 groove.

Re: New Goldenboy rifling question
8 thousands difference, ya that would make the rifling appear pretty light to the naked eye. Thank you for the followup.

Re: New Goldenboy rifling question
Well, sent the rifle off yesterday (Friday 8-17-2018) should be at Henry on Wednesday. I debated and debated about it. It wasn't until I bought the SGR Henry and saw the rifling on that rifle and how much better it shot and grouped that I finally made the decision just to go ahead and send it back to Henry. Now just wondering if they will replace the barrel or the whole rifle. Looks like the barrel is only held in place by two pins. It will be nice either way to get it back and back into service.
Hopefully only a couple of weeks. I had put swivel sling studs on the rifle and bent the end of the Magazine tube while removing that one. I hope they are kind enough to fix that while they have it. If not I will buy one from them and replace it myself.

It's disturbing to see this and it should have never left the factory but things do happen.
Too bad you didn't notice this when you bought it.

Re: New Goldenboy rifling question
I had to have the LGS order this rifle in. So even if I noticed it they would have just had to send it back for another one. I know it is aggravating though. Second gun this year I have had to send back. All companies have some problems every once in a while.
