Why do I need a .22 mag
Re: Why do I need a .22 mag
I didn’t “need” my SGC mag, but I certainly do enjoy it. Great match to her little sister .22 SGC. The wife loves both.

Re: Why do I need a .22 mag
I seem to have developed a bit of a "thing" for the .22 Magnum lately. It started with my Henry H003TM pump, then someone gave me a non-functional Remington 597M (synthetic stock/standard barrel) that I got working again. It is surprisingly accurate, and enjoyable to shoot. So much so, that when I found a new one still sitting on someone's shelf (the Magnum version was discontinued in 2014), I didn't hesitate to buy it. This new one has the laminated stock and heavy barrel. I think my wife may have staked a claim on it...small price to pay if she enjoys getting out and using it.
Now I have a CZ 512 carbine in .22 Magnum on the way...should be here in the next week or so. The black wood on the CZ carbine reminds me of the wood on the All-Weather Henrys.

Re: Why do I need a .22 mag
I grew up where center fires could not be used for hunting, so if I needed a "magnum", it was a .22.
There is a big difference in performance. .22 mag bullet construction is a lot different, so there is more than just a gain of a few hundred fps.
Economically, it's not a great cartridge. You can't realistically reload for it, so you can "plink" with the smaller center fire cartridges for much less - if you are a hand loader.
All that said, I have more than a couple and it remains one of my favorite cartridges.

I needed a 25-20 until reloading components became so difficult to find. Just bought a .22 Magnum from Brownells as its replacement - on sale 9/2/18!
