Question standard or goldenboy
Question standard or goldenboy
Hi all. New to the forum and looking to buy a Henry Lever Action. My question is do I buy the standard model or the golden boy. I plan to use the rifle for plinking, target shooting and just all around fun. Thank in advance.

Re: Question standard or goldenboy
with a 22 it simply becomes a question of personal preference .... they are both fine rifles, no real difference in performance however they have a different feel .... it would be best to try and handle both prior to making a decision .... the Golden Boys are beautiful rifles

Re: Question standard or goldenboy
Welcome to the forum from the Shenandoah Valley, VA. Any Henry 22LR is a great plinker, but you should handle them to check the fit. The Golden Boy is a beautiful and classic 22 rifle, but it has a larger drop in its stock that makes it hard to get a good cheek weld for some shooters. Chances are if you're like the rest of us you'll probably end up with a couple different models of Henry 22's...

Re: Question standard or goldenboy
As tractortad said, the golden/silver boys do not do well with a scope. They are really different rifles. I love the classic but never shot the goldenboy.

Re: Question standard or goldenboy
The Golden Boy is a beautiful gun, and for me, that is the problem. Every time I take it out, I'm afraid it will get a scratch on it. I have other .22LRs as well, so the Golden Boy rarely sees the light of day any more. If I could do it again, I would go with the standard model or the H003t pump.

Re: Question standard or goldenboy
I have both the .22 Classic and the golden boy .22 and both are great shooters. The butt stock on the golden boys have a different angle than the classic and most other Henry rifles. Before buying a golden boy, I would suggest shouldering both rifles and see which fit you like best. The golden boy is a beautiful rifle but is does not have the natural shouldering feel for me.
To be honest, if I were in the market for a .22 lever gun now, I would choose the Henry small game carbine or Henry small game rifle.

Welcome to the forum from CT. I own and really like the Classic 22LR, but I would choose the SGC if I were to get another one. I really like Skinner Peeps. Let us know what you decide to do.

Re: Question standard or goldenboy
Thanks everyone for the input, I did go a shouldered and messed with both. I ended up getting the classic carbine with the large loop lever.
