Re: Scout scope on Golden Boy
Regarding th stock drop: in GB with with factory iron sights, the center line (optical axis) of the sights is approximately 0.3in above the top of the barrel (I do not remember exact number). In my case, this allows for a good cheek weld, but just barely.
When you add a scope with 1in tube, even if it almost touches the barrel, like in my scout mount, the optical axis will still be about 0.7in above the top of the barrel, that is, 0.5in higher than with irons sights. Therefore, you must add 0.5in comb riser - otherwise it just won't work.
With Henry cantilever mount, the optical axis is more than 1 in above the to of the barrel , thus you need to raise the comb by more than 1inch as well. In fact, since the stock is angled, you really need to increase the height of the stock by 1.5 to 2 inches. It seems that there is no way to do it (in esthetically pleasing way) without modifying the stock. This is the reason I came up with the scout mount.
