Rust in my new Henry?

Post by Auriemma » Sun Dec 03, 2017 5:50 pm

I told you my wife bought me a beautiful Golden Boy 2 weeks ago. I’ve got about 200 rounds through it so far. Only one FTL and that was operator error (didn’t throw the lever far enough). Otherwise, flawless. Since my old eyes are having a hard time focusing on the bead, I decided to go with a scope. I just got the Henry scope mount. I removed the rear sight only to find both screw holes filled with a reddish brown powder. I’m assuming rust. I cleaned it out and attached my scope mount. (No scope yet) Needless to say, I’m disturbed by this.

Is this going to be an issue in the future?

that being the case, after thoroughly cleaning and lubing, I'd keep and eye on it but not worry much about it

If that's the case, I'd be annoyed but it wouldn't stop me from using it. However if you have concerns contact HRA and tell them.

All the octagon rimfire barrels will have a reddish look in those holes. At least all mine have. A little oil down them and they are fine.

I called Henry CS and told them what I found. Their answer was not what i expected or hoped. They do not use any compounds or powders that could have collected in those tapped holes. They should have been empty. They requested I ship it back to them for inspection covered under full warranty. About a 2 week turnaround.

Sorry you have to send it back. But Henry takes customer satisfaction very seriously. You may have just brought a situation to their attention that will resolve this issue for future customers.

Love your avatar by the way.

no surprise at Henry's response .... have you cleaned out the screw holes to where no rust can be seen ?
