New H001TV

Post by Ojaileveraction » Tue Nov 21, 2017 7:40 pm

Pulled the trigger on a new Octagon 17HMR today.
I've been eyeing it for awhile and my LGS really a Ace Hardware.
I plan on putting a large inappropriate scope on it when I get it home in ten days.

I will add to our community record as soon as I have the rifle in hand.

I love the 17 Rimfire calibers. I have a Savage 93r17 in 17HMR and Bmag 17wsm.
I'll sell the Savage now in favor of the new Henry. That bolt rifle is not really a stand shoot kind of gun like the Henry Octagons are.
I'll have all three now.

A picture

That's a Weaver T24 scope for Silhouettt and Benchrest. Big and inappropriate.
The only alternative is already on a 1895 CBA.
I've used this scope for 17hmr and it lets you see the little .17 inch holes way out there.
I tried Weaver Tipoff rings but they were to low for this scope. I'm looking for more medium rings. The Weavers will be perfect for the 4x that is on the Marlin right now.
I have the urge to shoot 3/8 size Silhouettts out to 200yds. Kind of Rimfire magnum Silhouettt Match.

I had issues with the scope or mounts . I could not get over from the left , I'm thinking mounts.
Took the scope off at the range and shot it with the Buckhorn sight. I'm not used to that limited sight picture but the rifle did fine on the gongs at different ranges.

So I took it home and put a Williams FP/tk receiver sight on.

We're in the midst of a wildlands fire now. We are fine but many are not.
God bless the thousands of emergency personnel on the line protecting us.

You might need a higher comb on the stock for a good cheek weld. Can't wait to find out how accurate it is. I have one unscoped and it is no where near as accurate as my CZ in .17HMR.

I'm watching this disaster in disbelief, but hoping for the best like so many others. Take good care of yourselves.

Yes, do take care. Have a sister out in that area, so we're watching, too.

Love the "big and inappropriate" scope thing. Kind of like being politically incorrect. :) Hope you get it to work. The 17 HMR really deserves a scope.

Rebel with out a cause that's me.
Yes, to get every MOA of accuracy a 17HMR deserves a scope.

For the current intended purpose of Pistol Cartridge Silhouette Shooting not so much. I shoot a Club Match that allows 17HMR.

I will have to put some time into the Weaver Scope and figure out the exact issue.

Hope your sister is well.
Thanks for the encouragement.
