Loading 12 rounds in an H001M
Loading 12 rounds in an H001M
This might be a dumb thing to do, and I'd do it safely obviously, but have any of you loaded your Henry 22 mag with 11 rounds, then racked one into the chamber, de-cocked, or half-cocked, then loaded 1 more into the tube?

Yes. That's a perfectly proper practice.
Whenever you see a magazine count in a rifle's stats you may see, 11+1 or 6+1.
That's 11 in the mag and 1 in the chamber.

that's common for us in our 45-70, 44 mag, and 357 mag .... depending on the setting/circumstances, we often chamber one thought the ejection port and then load the tube ... with the hammer on safe, its not a problem

So, I can actually put one directly into the chamber via the ejection port first?
Then load the rest into the tube? Or just 11 into the tube, and then one more into the tube once I've levered one into the chamber?
Much thanks guys.

I don't think so as the .22WMR is much smaller than the centerfire calibers. But if you can work its way in there is nothing wrong with doing it.henry22 wrote:So, I can actually put one directly into the chamber via the ejection port first?

I can't say that for sure with your H001M because I've never used one .... I do know that it is simple to do with the centerfire calibers we havehenry22 wrote:So, I can actually put one directly into the chamber via the ejection port first?

I've tried it with .22LR and it can be done but it is much easier to drop it down the tube. You do not need to insert the inner tube to chamber the round if you point it straight up and do it slowly. It just saves a few seconds.JEBar wrote:I can't say that for sure with your H001M because I've never used one .... Re: Loading 12 rounds in an H001M
Went shootin' today at a friend's farm. We only shot about 50 rounds out of the henry, and a few out of my friend's 308 - he wanted to sight it in before he goes hunting.
Funny thing this 22 mag, I had the scope zeroed last week at 100 yards, and hit a few potatoes stuck on the end of toothpicks. I had drilled small pilot holes into the top edge of the target board, stuck the toothpicks in them, and speared the potatoes on the toothpicks. I only hit a few taters last week, today a few more.
But, despite holding dead still with a Caldwell rest, - (being able to elevate the front end of the rest), I'd miss the odd time, and then at other times, dead on, holding in the same spot, the bullets didn't always go where I expected them. I wonder why that is? I know there are so many variables, but it wasn't easily repeatable.
I found if I held a hair higher than dead center of the tater, closer to the crown, I'd hit it almost dead center, if I held dead center, I wouldn't hit it all. Now I'm wondering, should I adjust the scope, or my aim?
