Henry Golden Boy Silver Question.

Post by TRock » Tue Mar 30, 2021 12:01 pm

I went to look at a H004S 22 Golden Boy Silver this morning. When i got there it was a H004SY or youth model. The barrel length was 17 " instead of 20. Would the youth model be more comparable to the Henry Carbine model 22. Also I'm not a big person, so has any other adults used the youth model and if so , your opinions. Thanks.

in most cases, one big difference in adult and youth rifles is the length of the stock .... if the stock fits the shooter, and he likes the rifle, he should be good to go

I wasn’t even aware Henry made an H004SY. If the length of pull matches your shooting style go for it. I too like youth rifles. At least in rimfire.

Thank you sir. After some research there is only one inch difference in the length of pull. Thirteen compared to fourteen . I appreciate your time and effort.

I have one and it fits me perfectly. I went looking for an Evil Roy and came across the H004SY instead. It was marked down a lot, almost $150 less than I expected to pay for the Evil Roy. It’s overall length is only 1/4 inch less that the Evil Roy. I did change out the lever for the larger loop.

I’m still trying to figure out how to post a photo on this forum.

I have also been thinking about the Youth model. Local gun shop has one in stock. My Evil Roy has a 13" length of pull. I shot the Frontier which has a 14" length of pull. The 13" feels better to me.

Wayne click on the full editor and preview tab below the reply box. It opens a new reply box and at the lower left you will see an attachments tab. Click that tab and you should be able to select a pic from your files on your computer

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Update... Yes, I did end up with the Silver Boy. Haven't had any range time yet, but I believe we will get along just fine.

I just bought a Golden Boy .22LR youth model because I wanted something a bit shorter and easier to pack. I swapped the stock out with a standard size Golden Boy stock that I had laying around and I honestly can't tell there's any difference in barrel length. The youth stock is about 1 1/4" -1 1/2" shorter. If you're comfortable with it, fine! You can always opt for a standard length shoulder stock.
