1999 Henry H001 Classic

Post by Sir Henry » Fri Dec 04, 2020 11:57 am

I went through my plastic ammo trays of small parts and found what I believe is the original sights. The dovetail on the barrel is .468” and not .366” like all 17 of my other H001’s.

I’m glad I keep parts separate per brand. I have boxes for 10/22’s, Walters and others.

This is what I found in the Henry boxes. Several of the type off the rifle and only one like the one I installed. The dovetail bases are not the same size.

The sight is different. The ramp slides through the sight and does not cradle it. It also does not have a set screw.

The front sight/hanger is plastic while the hood is metal. Henry took a lot of heat in the beginning because of the plastic parts and went to metal quickly and even offered free metal updates.

The barrel band is the other plastic item. Looks like this one could use some cleaning.

So this Classic is now back to being original.

I purchased my H001 in December of 1999. It has the plastic front sight like the picture you posted. I put a scope on mine and left the sights as they were, except I removed the elevation ramp so the scope would clear. All of my grandkids grew up shooting the H001 and it remains their favorite when they have time to shoot with grandpa.
