Yup, I have shot my BP pistol at Parma Woods, the other MDC shooting range here in the Northland. It's okay to do so, and I think Lake City should be a go, too.
just curious .... what's the longest distance you've fired your smoker .. :?:

25 yards. That's the standard distance for the muzzleloading P-2 target size I use. Also when I've shot at Ft Osage ML range, the eight black steel targets are set up for pistols only at 25 yards.

To be honest, with my "professional, finely-tuned" wobble I have going when shooting off hand, one-handed, I don't know if I could hit targets that much farther out. As you know, at MDC ranges the distances are set. After 25 yards, the next distance is 50 yards. I'd sure like to achieve that distance some day. I'm certain Al has no problems at 50 or even quite a bit further with his BP rifles.

Something to work toward for our 2020 Gathering!

The excitement continues to build. You left and right coasters need to get in on this. A great time had by all.

I'm not opposed to Parma Woods, just for the record, so let's chat about it (maybe PM for those that are definitely involved?). As noted, the only real reason to go to Lake CIty is the shotgun area, but I'm not likely to be any better by August (or am I?). Not impossible to take them both in during our times "on the range."

I'm game, so let's noodle it!

Lake City reminds me of Jay Henges near St Louis .... well, the way Jay Henges was three years ago before they closed its rifle/pistol range .... I thoroughly enjoy shooting trap as well on the rifle/pistol rang .... at a minimum I'll have a 12 ga Remington 11-87, a Henry 44 Mag, and its companion Redhawk .... this year I'll be bringing at least 500 rounds custom made for our Redhawk .... with them its really fun to fire .... should anyone have any interest in any of our other rifles/calibers, we'll be happy to pack them .... as with our last gathering, everyone is more than welcome to send rounds down range with any or all of them .... I do hope to get in 2 days of shooting (Wednesday & Thursday) .... I couldn't care less which range, I'll be delighted with whatever you decide

Bob and I have chatted and he reminded me that Parma Woods and Lake CIty have different days of operation, and they're closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

We might swap things a bit and go to Frontier Justice's indoor range in KC, KS, on Wednesday. The indoor rifle range there (50 yds) is better lit than the one in Lee's Summit and there's a nice Cabela's just a few blocks away for those interested in that. We might also head to a KC BBQ institution, Arthur Bryant's, for dinner Wednesday night. It's nothing fancy, but some of the best BBQ in a very interesting setting.

That would give us a leisurely day at Lake City, where we have rifle (up to 100 yds), trap, skeet, shotgun patterning booth and pistol ranges (including BP). Another night of 'Cue at Jack Stack would be a great way to cap things off.

Attendees will not be disappointed, I guarantee it!

if our first gathering taught me anything, its that you guys know your shooting ranges; as well as, knowing your BBQ restaurants .. .. we'll happily support whatever you decide in both areas .. :D .. for the ranges, we will have a couple of rifles, a couple of revolvers and a shotgun with us .... for the BBQ, I'll provide a more than ample appetite ;)
